Davante Adams: Injury from hard hit 'wasn't a concussion'

Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams was the recipient of a scary hit to the head late in Sunday night's win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Adams took 49ers safety Jimmie Ward's helmet to the chin while trying to haul in a deep pass and had trouble getting off the turf.

Adams was taken to the blue medical tent to be evaluated but missed just one play before returning.

"Well, how I'm able to get through it is I'm different. That's probably the main thing. I've dealt with a lot of stuff like that and just the mental toughness to get in there," Adams explained postgame, according to team reporter Wes Hodkiewicz.

Adams maintains he didn't suffer a head injury, and team doctors corroborated the diagnosis during the evaluation.

"It wasn't a concussion. On the sideline, they evaluated and saw right away. I was straight," Adams said. "More than anything on the ground was my chest, having trouble catching a breath, but definitely good now."

The All-Pro wideout was targeted two plays later and four more times in the game. He caught two passes for 42 yards in the final 37 seconds of the contest to put the Packers in position to kick a game-winning field goal as time expired.

"What a competitor, man. And then to go out there and have two big catches in the final two-minute drive, he is the ultimate competitor," head coach Matt LaFleur said. "I think he is the best receiver in the National Football League, and I think he shows it on a weekly basis."
