Roethlisberger dealing with pectoral injury

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a left pectoral injury, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network.

"That could affect him from a preparation standpoint," Tomlin said, according to KDKA-TV. "Don't have an idea of how much as I sit here right now, but we better be ready to be adjustable."

The Las Vegas Raiders hit Roethlisberger 10 times and sacked him twice during the Steelers' 26-17 loss Sunday. The 39-year-old, who's thrown for just 483 yards and two touchdowns this season, has now been hit 16 times through two games.

"(Roethlisberger) took too many hits. We can run the ball better," Tomlin said, according to Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.

Pittsburgh went into the 2021 campaign with a revamped offensive line after losing multiple starters in the offseason. Despite the early struggles, Tomlin isn't planning to make changes to the unit.

"We just got to keep working. Development is that," he said. "It doesn't happen in an instant."

Roethlisberger is just one of the many key starters to appear on the Steelers' injury report this week, along with linebacker T.J. Watt (ankle) and wide receiver Diontae Johnson (knee), among others.

Tomlin didn't provide updates on those players' statuses for Week 3. However, the coach said Johnson's knee ailment is "looking better, (but) not to be confused with great," according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
