Wentz's status for Week 3 unclear after spraining both ankles

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich said it's too early to tell if Carson Wentz will suit up for Week 3 after he sprained both ankles against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Despite the quarterback's injury woes, Reich expressed optimism about Wentz's tolerance for pain.

"I know Carson has a tremendous threshold for pain," Reich added, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. "My history with Carson: He's an incredibly fast healer, plus if there's any chance he can play with these (injuries), he'll play."

The 28-year-old sprained his left ankle earlier in Sunday's game but attempted to play through it, Reich said. However, Wentz did not return after injuring his right ankle in the fourth quarter following an awkward tackle by Aaron Donald.

Jacob Eason took the reins under center following Wentz's removal. The second-year pro attempted five passes and threw a late interception to Jalen Ramsey, which sealed the Colts' 27-24 defeat.

Reich is confident Eason will be prepared to take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 if needed, stating, "If Jacob has to play, he'll be ready."

Wentz has been sidelined for a significant portion of his Colts tenure after joining in the offseason. He previously underwent surgery following a foot injury in training camp but returned in time for the season opener.
