New York Jets defensive end Vinny Curry announced Wednesday that he will miss the 2021 season due to complications from a rare blood disorder.
Curry had his spleen removed earlier in the summer, and he was projected to return to the field in September. However, blood clots formed, and the 33-year-old needed to take blood thinners during his recovery.
As he's advised to avoid contact for the next three-to-six months, Curry will be sidelined for his first season with the Jets. The franchise placed him on the reserve/NFI list Tuesday.

Curry signed a one-year, $1.3-million contract with New York in March.
The pass-rush specialist spent eight campaigns as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, racking up 194 tackles, 32.5 sacks, and 46 tackles for loss. Curry also spent a season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Jets have now lost two free-agent defensive linemen after Carl Lawson suffered a ruptured Achilles last week.
