Tua after 5-interception day: Now's the time to make mistakes

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn't beating himself up after he threw five interceptions during practice Tuesday.

"We wanted to be aggressive today within the pass game. We wanted to see if we could fit throws in," Tagovailoa said, according to The Athletic. "We wanted to see what throws we could make under these conditions. We were just trying to throw the ball vertical down the field.

"Obviously, you want to be smart, but if there's a time to make mistakes, now's a time to make mistakes."

The second-year quarterback battled heavy rain Tuesday. However, he declined to use the downpour as a crutch for his showing, instead pointing out the benefits of preparing for inclement weather.

"We're going to have to play in the rain. We're going to have to play in conditions where the ball is going to be wet, where it's gonna be cold, it's gonna be hot," Tagovailoa said. "Overall, (it) was an alright day."

The 23-year-old is poised to be the Dolphins' starter after receiving nine starts as a rookie last season. Tagovailoa struggled with consistency in 2020, averaging 181.4 yards per game while finishing the year with an 87.1 passer rating.
