The New York Jets are bolstering their defense with a former first-round linebacker.
Former Detroit Lions defender Jarrad Davis agreed to join New York on a one-year, $7-million deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 26-year-old had a strong start to his NFL career, registering eight sacks and 196 tackles through his first two campaigns. However, Davis hasn't replicated that production in recent years. He posted a career-low 46 tackles while playing just 29% of the Lions' defensive snaps last season.
The Jets have struggled to find consistency at linebacker recently. C.J. Mosley - New York's top player at the position - appeared in just two games over the last two years.
Mosley signed a five-year, $85-million contract with the Jets prior to the 2019 season but played just two games that year and then opted out of the 2020 campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic. The four-time Pro Bowler has generated trade interest from multiple teams this offseason, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Detroit drafted Davis 21st overall out of Florida in 2017.
