Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young captured the Defensive Rookie of the Year award Saturday at the NFL Honors for the 2020 season.

Young enjoyed a productive rookie campaign after Washington selected him second overall last April. He led all first-year players with 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

He beat out Jeremy Chinn of the Carolina Panthers and Antoine Winfield Jr. of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the award.

The former Ohio State star flashed dominance as a pass-rusher and in run defense, leading all rookie defensive linemen in total pressures (40) and tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage (30), according to PFF.

Young played a vital role for a Washington stop unit that ranked second in yards allowed per game and fourth in points surrendered in 2020.

The 21-year-old was named to the PFWA All-Rookie team and earned a Pro Bowl nod for his efforts.
