Vikings OC Gary Kubiak retires

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak announced his retirement Thursday.

"It's been the honor of my lifetime to work for 36 seasons as an NFL player and coach. I've been on a football field for most of my life, and now I look forward to stepping away from the game and enjoying more time with my family and friends," Kubiak said.

The longtime coach joined the Vikings in 2019 as an offensive advisor before being promoted to the coordinator position following Kevin Stefanski's departure. The Vikings' offense was productive during Kubiak's lone year as coordinator, finishing fourth in yardage and 11th in scoring this past season.

Kubiak's departure means the Vikings will open next season with their sixth offensive coordinator in as many years.

Kubiak, who was also serving as the assistant head coach for the Vikings, has held coaching jobs with numerous teams over his career, including the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and Baltimore Ravens.

This is Kubiak's second retirement after he also stepped away from coaching following two years as head coach of the Denver Broncos. He won a Super Bowl during his time in Denver, and Kubiak also served as the sideline boss of the Texans from 2006 to 2013. He retires with a head coaching record of 82-75.
