New Orleans Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn is close to signing a deal with the Detroit Lions to be the team's new defensive coordinator, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Glenn becomes the latest Saints staff member to head to the Motor City after tight ends coach Dan Campbell accepted the Lions' head coaching job. Glenn has spent the past four seasons as a member of the coaching staff in New Orleans and was with the Cleveland Browns as an assistant secondary coach in 2014-15.

Glenn, 48, was a first-round selection of the New York Jets in the 1994 NFL Draft. The Texas A&M alum played in the league for 15 years, spending time with the Jets, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Saints.

As the architect of the Lions' defense, Glenn will be tasked with improving a unit that allowed the most yards per game (419.8) and surrendered the most points (32.4) in the NFL.
