Report: Vikings' Kubiak leaning toward retirement

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is leaning toward retiring, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Kubiak has yet to make a final decision, but he could do so in the days and weeks ahead, Pelissero adds.

The 59-year-old currently also serves as Minnesota’s assistant head coach. The club initially hired Kubiak as an offensive advisor, and he was promoted to the coordinator role after Kevin Stefanski left to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns last offseason.

Kubiak previously retired from the Denver Broncos due to health issues in 2016. He served as the Broncos' senior personnel advisor in 2017 and 2018 before returning to coaching. Kubiak was also head coach of the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013.

Minnesota finished the regular season with the NFL's fourth-ranked offense, averaging 393.3 yards per game. The Vikings' rushing offense completed the campaign ranked fifth (142.7 yards per game).

The team could be searching for its sixth offensive coordinator during head coach Mike Zimmer’s tenure. Minnesota previously hired Norv Turner, Pat Shurmur, John DeFilippo, Stefanski, and Kubiak.
