The New York Giants locked up a big piece of their defense Friday, handing defensive back Logan Ryan a three-year extension.

Ryan's deal is worth $31 million, with $20 million in guaranteed money, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 29-year-old Rutgers product joined the Giants in September on a one-year deal and quickly established himself as a leader. In 14 games, Ryan's totaled 79 tackles, nine pass defenses, and three forced fumbles, along with one sack and one interception.

Before joining New York, Ryan spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, helping them reach last year's AFC Championship Game. He also won a pair of Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.
