The Kansas City Chiefs expect running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to miss the remainder of the regular season after suffering a hip and ankle injury Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Edwards-Helaire could return in time for the playoffs, Rapoport adds.

X-rays came back negative following Kansas City's win, and the team will know more once the rookie undergoes an MRI.

Edwards-Helaire suffered the injury when he was tangled up with several players during a run. He looked to be in significant pain and was immediately taken to the locker room.

The 2020 first-round pick is averaging 4.4 yards per carry with 36 receptions and five total touchdowns this season. Le'Veon Bell will presumably take over the lead-back role if Edwards-Helaire misses time.

Andy Reid's squad currently sits at 13-1 and will receive a first-round bye if it finishes atop the AFC standings.
