The Washington Football Team is optimistic Alex Smith will start Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Smith, who suffered a calf strain in Week 14, is expected to be a limited participant in practice this week as Washington will prioritize resting its quarterback, Pelissero adds.
Dwayne Haskins, who replaced Smith against the San Francisco 49ers, would likely get the start in Week 15 if the veteran can't play.
Smith has been a driving force behind Washington's second-half resurgence. The 36-year-old has compiled a 4-1 mark since being named the team's starter.
Washington currently leads the NFC East with a 6-7 record.
