The New York Giants attempted to tie up their Monday Night Football game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a two-point conversion in the final minute, but the officials controversially called off defensive pass interference.

Initially, the referees threw a flag on Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who appeared to make premature contact with the Giants' Dion Lewis. After conferencing on the field, they picked up the flag.

"I'm not sure why it was picked up," Giants head coach Joe Judge said postgame, according to SNY. "We had a pretty good view, I know they can't use jumbotrons or replay. We had a pretty clear view of that as well. I thought (the official) made the right call the first time."

Judge added, "That's all I'm gonna say about the officiating. ... I thought our guys played hard, we got to put ourselves in position that we can have success and not bring a third party into the factor."

Head referee Brad Rogers provided an explanation for the call.

"The side judge had the flag thrown on the play and came to the down judge who was on that side of the goal line. The communication between the side judge and the down judge was that the defender contacted the receiver simultaneously as the ball came in," Rogers said.

"And in order to have defensive pass interference, it has to be clearly early and hinder the receiver's ability to make the catch."

The Giants went for the tie after marching 70 yards on 13 plays without any timeouts, capping the drive with a highlight-reel touchdown from Daniel Jones to Golden Tate.

The Giants dropped to 1-7 with the loss, while the Buccaneers improved to 6-2.
