Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Saturday's game against Boston College.

"Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation," head coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement. "He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week's game against Boston College."

Under ACC protocols, Lawrence is required to isolate for 10 days, according to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated.

If he received his positive test result Thursday, the star signal-caller would therefore also miss a matchup between the No. 1-ranked Tigers and No. 4 Notre Dame in nine days, a game expected to carry national title implications.

Clemson's offense has been humming this season under Lawrence, with the passer leading the club to a 6-0 record while throwing for 1,833 yards with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The junior and presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is attempting to lead Clemson to its third consecutive national championship appearance. The Tigers won the title during his freshman season and lost last year to LSU.

Clemson would likely turn to five-star quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei for Saturday's game. The freshman has completed 12 of 19 passes for 102 yards in mop-up duty this season.

"While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we're excited about competing against a very good B.C. team on Saturday," Swinney said.
