Patriots turn to Stidham vs. Chiefs after Hoyer's costly mistakes

The New England Patriots pulled starting quarterback Brian Hoyer and replaced him with Jarrett Stidham late in the third quarter of Monday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hoyer committed two costly errors with the Patriots driving for points. With New England out of timeouts and trailing 6-3 just before halftime, Hoyer took an inexplicable sack with less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock.

Hoyer then fumbled the ball on third-and-goal at the Chiefs' 10-yard line in the third quarter. Kansas City scored on the subsequent possession.

Stidham entered the game with the Patriots trailing 13-3. He threw a touchdown pass to N'Keal Harry to cut the Chiefs' lead to three points in the fourth quarter.
