Injuries continue to pile up for the San Francisco 49ers.

Defensive end Dee Ford is expected to miss Sunday's game against the New York Giants, sources told Tom Pelissero and Mike Garofalo of NFL Network, and there's no clear timetable for his return.

Ford didn't play against the New York Jets in Week 2. He was suffering from neck spasms but now has "more of a back injury," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday, according to The Athletic's David Lombardi.

The one-time Pro Bowler played 31% of San Francisco's defensive snaps during the season opener.

Ford is entering his second season with the 49ers after spending his first five NFL campaigns with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 29-year-old racked up 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles through 11 games in 2019.

His absence is the latest blow to the 49ers' defensive front, which lost defensive ends Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas to season-ending injuries this week.

San Francisco will also be missing running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman in Week 3, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could potentially be unavailable after he suffered a high ankle sprain Sunday.
