Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders and defensive end Derek Barnett won't play Week 1 against the Washington Football Team due to hamstring injuries, the team announced Saturday.

Sanders was listed as week-to-week in August and was a limited participant at practice this week. The second-year runner is progressing well, but the Eagles opted not to rush his 2020 debut, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 23-year-old led the Eagles with 179 rushing attempts and 818 yards as a rookie coming out of the second round in 2019. He scored six total touchdowns and caught 50 passes for 509 yards.

Sanders' absence leaves Philadelphia with Boston Scott as their main running back, followed by Corey Clement. Scott racked up 245 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 61 attempts last season.

Barnett recently suffered his injury and practiced on a limited basis this week.

The 2017 first-round pick set a career-high with 6.5 sacks last year. He also recorded 30 tackles and two forced fumbles through 14 games.
