The Los Angeles Rams and Jalen Ramsey aren't close to agreeing on a new contract as the Pro Bowl cornerback enters the last year of his current deal, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The negotiations between the two parties are still in the early stages, Anderson adds.

Ramsey will earn $13.7 million in 2020 on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. His next deal is expected to make him one of the highest-paid players at the position, which is currently topped by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay at $16.7 million per year.

The Rams acquired Ramsey midway through last season via a blockbuster trade that sent two first-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 25-year-old appeared in nine games for Los Angeles in 2019, racking up 33 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception.

The 2016 fifth-overall pick has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons.
