Report: Foles ahead of Trubisky in Bears' QB competition
The early returns of the Chicago Bears' quarterback competition show veteran Nick Foles ahead of Mitch Trubisky for the job, according to Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago.
Both quarterbacks split reps with the starting offensive line during Tuesday's practice. Trubisky was off with his accuracy, throwing high and behind receivers and also tossing an interception, Hoge reports.
"There's a couple balls I think he would want back, a few here or there just with the accuracy might not be exactly what he wanted," head coach Matt Nagy said after practice.
Foles also threw an interception, but he was more accurate than Trubisky, though he didn't take many chances with downfield throws.
"I thought both of them, there's a couple progressions with the eyes making sure - especially in 7-on-7 - test it downfield instead of taking a checkdown," Nagy said. "I think you saw a little bit of that from both of them today."
In a normal year, the Bears would be preparing for their third preseason game, the exhibition game that most resembles a regular-season contest. Instead, Chicago is two weeks away from opening the season with a decision still to be made on its starting quarterback.
