Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Mike Pennel has been suspended for the first two games of the 2020 regular season. The move was listed on the league's official transaction wire, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Pennel tweeted an apology for his suspension and suggested it was for the use of a banned substance.

Pennel will miss the league opener against the Houston Texans on Sept. 10 as well as a road game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 20.

The sixth-year pro appeared in eight games for the Chiefs in their championship season, registering 24 tackles and one sack.

The Chiefs re-signed Pennel to a one-year, $1.04-million deal in March.

Kansas City will also be without cornerback Bashaud Breeland for the first four games of the season after the league suspended him for violating its substance abuse policy.
