The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive lineman Arik Armstead to a five-year extension, the team announced Monday.

Armstead's new deal is worth up to $85 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 26-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The 2015 first-round pick gets a big-money deal after producing his best career season in 2019.

San Francisco added then-rookie Nick Bosa and Dee Ford last offseason to form a dominant defensive front, and Armstead responded by racking up 10 sacks (he notched only nine over the previous four years), 11 tackles for a loss, and two forced fumbles in 16 games.
