Aikman wouldn't consider personnel role with Cowboys

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman may be interested in working with an NFL team in the future, but it won't be for the club with which he spent his entire playing career.

The FOX sportscaster said he can't envision working with Jerry Jones and believes the owner is primarily to blame for Dallas' recent struggles.

"I doubt it. I mean, I think that's a real long shot," Aikman said on 1310 The Ticket when asked about his chances of working in the Cowboys' front office. "I believe that it's unlikely that Jerry will ever bring somebody in that can help this football team in that regard just because he's been real stubborn and steadfast, in that he's the one in charge.

"I think in a lot of ways until that changes, this team's going to have some problems. Would he ever ask me to come be a part of it? I think that'd be a real leap of faith. I don't envision that happening, and I don't envision it happening at any point, quite honestly, no matter who's in charge out there."

The Cowboys sit atop the NFC East standings, though a recent three-game losing streak has dropped their record to 6-7.

Aikman, who won three Super Bowls with the franchise, has often been critical of Jones and how he runs the team. Dallas has won just four playoff games since its last title in 1995.

"Ultimately, we all understand that the owner, whether it's here in Dallas or any other franchise, the owner ultimately makes the decisions," Aikman said. "Ultimately, he's the one who signs off. You can always say, 'Well, as the owner I can do this, I can do that.' There's no question that that's true, but I think there has to be one voice and one person that the players answer to."
