The Carolina Panthers have multiple options when it comes to the future of franchise quarterback Cam Newton, but the expectation is the team will attempt to trade the injured passer this offseason in hopes of landing a large return, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Rapoport adds the Panthers haven't ruled out keeping the nine-year pro, provided he shows he "can be himself again" following his upcoming surgery for a Lisfranc injury.

Newton has just one year remaining on his contract. He's due $18.6 million for the 2020 season.

The offseason quarterback market could also include Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Philip Rivers. Their availability is likely to affect teams' interest in Newton.

The Panthers fired longtime head coach Ron Rivera this week and could look to start fresh on the field by collecting a number of assets for Newton.
