Brady now thinks he can play until 46 or 47, says trainer

The rebuilding Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are in for some bad news.

According to Tom Brady's personal trainer, Alex Guerrero, the New England Patriots quarterback can see himself sticking around even longer than initially anticipated.

"It all comes to commitment, really. No one thought you could play at the elite level in your late 30s, early 40s. That is something we always felt we could do," Guerrero said Thursday on "The Greg Hill Show," according to WEEI's Ryan Hannable.

Brady, a six-time Super Bowl champion and winner of 10 consecutive division titles, turned 42 years old ahead of this season and has shown little sign of slowing down.

"I certainly do believe that 45 is a very realistic goal," Guerrero said. "... We talk about it all the time. Every year he just adds another year. He goes in and he's like, 'Guys, I feel so good still. I think I am going to go till 45.' I am like, 'OK.' Now he's like, 'Alex, I think I can go like 46 or 47.'"

It's a frightening prospect for the two AFC East clubs that are apparently building for a time when Brady isn't wreaking havoc on the division, and the rest of the league for that matter.

They can find some hope in the chance that Brady won't be playing with the Patriots in his latter years. His contract voids after the 2019 season, potentially setting him up for free agency. Guerrero wouldn't shed any light on who Brady will suit up for next season.

"I don't know. It's not July 2020. I am focused on today. I am just trying to get Tom ready for practice today. It's Thursday," he said.
