Saquon shuts down talk of sitting out games: 'It won't happen'

Saquon Barkley won't be convinced that sitting out the remainder of the season to heal his injuries is the best option for him.

The star New York Giants running back underwent an X-ray for a shoulder injury following Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. Barkley tried to brush aside the ailment, even if it played a part in him recording just a single rushing yard in the game.

With the Giants 2-8 with six games left in a lost season, some would suggest it would be best for Barkley to heal up rather than take on more hits.

"The mindset of sitting me out and resting me for the rest of the season is beyond me. I do not agree with it. It won't happen," Barkley said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

"I'm going to keep going until I can't go no more. That's the player I am and I'm going to do it for my teammates."

The Giants aren't considering sitting Barkley, either.

"Absolutely not," head coach Pat Shurmur said on Monday in regards to the idea of resting the 22-year-old.

Barkley, who missed three games earlier in the year with a high ankle sprain, won't use injuries as an excuse for his performance.

"What's not being myself? Yes, I do feel like myself," he said. "I would love to go for 100 yards every game. I would love to be doing the things I was doing last year. Trust me. I don't like the fact I was able to have one yard against a great team - respect to them - but I feel if you see me get into open space I was still making people miss."
