It appears the New York Jets wanted a major boost to their offensive line if they were to deal star safety Jamal Adams.

The Dallas Cowboys inquired about a potential deal for Adams prior to the trade deadline, and the Jets asked for All-Pro guard Zack Martin in return, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Dallas quickly shut down the offer, as well as the subsequent proposal by New York general manager Joe Douglas of left tackle Tyron Smith.

The Cowboys' best offer for Adams was a first-round draft pick and backup cornerback Anthony Brown, according to Rapoport.

Though the Jets received numerous calls about the Pro Bowl safety, a deal never came close to being finalized.

Martin and Smith are among the top players at their respective positions and vital to Dallas' offensive attack. The duo have earned a combined 11 Pro Bowl appearances and five All-Pro selections.

Adams voiced his displeasure earlier this week with the fact that New York was shopping him before the deadline. However, he later said he's "at peace" following a meeting with Jets chairman Christopher Johnson.
