Report: Dolphins placing Xavien Howard on IR
The Miami Dolphins are placing cornerback Xavien Howard on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury during Monday Night Football, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Howard didn't suffer a significant ACL or MCL injury, reports Rapoport, but the Dolphins are choosing to be cautious with their talented defender.
Miami made Howard the league's highest-paid cornerback in terms of average annual value this offseason, signing him to a five-year, $76.5-million extension in May.
The 26-year-old missed two games earlier this year with a knee ailment. Arguably the team's most talented defender, he intercepted one pass in five games this season after picking off seven in 2018.
Currently sitting at 0-7, Miami remains the favorite to land the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
