Broncos' Fangio: Fans have 'every right to boo'

Denver Broncos fans made their feelings known Thursday night, as they showered the team with boos in its loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at home.

Head coach Vic Fangio said Friday that the boos were justified.

"With that performance, they have every right to be angry and they have every right to boo," Fangio said during his presser. "We probably deserved it. It's a loyal fan base and one that I've grown quickly to appreciate. We're doing everything we can to get this fixed as quick as possible."

With the 30-6 loss, Fangio's Broncos fell to 2-5 on the season. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has led the offense to ranks of 29th in points per game (16) and 25th in passing yards (207.9).

Flacco put up 213 passing yards and fumbled thrice against the Chiefs, and some questioned his level of enthusiasm during the loss. He's in no danger of losing his job, though, according to Fangio.

"When things are going good, he's like that. He's Joe Cool. When things are going bad, it's a lack of intensity. It's a lack of enthusiasm," said Fangio. "I think that's just going to continue to be the dialogue as it relates to Joe Flacco and his career."

Flacco was sacked eight times by a Chiefs front that had managed just 12 quarterback takedowns through the team's first six games. Broncos tackle Garett Bolles, whose struggles are well-documented, will also retain his starting spot for now.

Fangio said the blame for the team's offensive struggles should be spread across the entire unit.

"I just thought our whole pass offense struggled, really. Sacks was a part of that, coverage was part of that, and guys getting open was part of that," the first-year head coach said. "I think it's more fair to say that our offense struggled more so than our protection, but protection is part of the offense."

Fangio and Co. will get 10 days off before a meeting with the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.
