Eagles release Zach Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles have released linebacker Zach Brown, the team announced on Monday. Several clubs are expected to express interest in the veteran, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The move comes just six games into Brown's tenure with Philadelphia, the fourth stop of his NFL career. The former Tar Heel reached the Pro Bowl as a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2016.

Brown's release also comes just a day after the 29-year-old's now infamous comments about former teammate Kirk Cousins blew up in his face in spectacular fashion.

Brown, who played with Cousins when both were on the Washington Redskins in 2017, didn't say kind words about the pivot during the week leading up to the Eagles' clash with the Minnesota Vikings.

"Cousins, I think every defense is going to want that guy to throw the ball," Brown said of the Vikings quarterback, according to ESPN.com's Tim McManus. "For me, that's probably the weakest part of their offense is him... You just want them to pass the ball. You want Kirk Cousins to get it in his hands."

Cousins and the Vikings ended up getting the last laugh after a 38-20 blowout victory, with the signal-caller posting his best performance of the season by far (333 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception).

Brown, who has recorded 31 tackles and two pass breakups this season, will likely find a new home soon. Meanwhile, his former team will look to get back on the winning track without the eight-year pro against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.
