The Carolina Panthers have placed defensive tackle Kawann Short on the injured reserve with a partially torn rotator cuff suffered in Week 2 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced on Tuesday.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said Short won't return this season.

"We have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK (Short) and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on the rebab and get ready for next season," said Hurney.

Short missed the team's last two games due to the injury.

The two-time Pro Bowler posted four tackles in two games this season. To fill the roster spot, Carolina has signed Bryan Cox Jr. from its practice squad.
