Cowboys release 2017 1st-rounder Charlton

The Dallas Cowboys have released defensive end Taco Charlton, the team announced.

Dallas was reportedly keeping the door open for a possible trade involving the former first-round pick but was seemingly unable to find a partner, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The young pass-rusher reportedly came up in trade talks ahead of roster cut-downs at the end of preseason, and the Cowboys increased their efforts to move him in recent weeks.

Veteran defensive end Robert Quinn will be added to the active roster after serving his two-game suspension, which would have left Charlton - who has been inactive in each of the first two weeks - further down the pecking order.

The Cowboys selected Charlton No. 28 overall in the 2017 draft. He's accumulated just four sacks and one forced fumble in 27 professional games.
