Jets cut 2019 3rd-round pick Jachai Polite
The New York Jets made 2019 third-round draft pick Jachai Polite one of their roster cuts ahead of Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline, according to Randy Lange of the team's official site.
Initially projected to be a first-round pick, the linebacker fell down draft boards after a poor showing at the combine.
Polite is the latest player drafted under the Mike Maccagnan regime to be released by the Jets. Maccagnan, New York's general manager for four seasons, was released less than three weeks after the draft. Head coach Adam Gase was named interim GM before Joe Douglas was hired as the permanent replacement.
Polite played in all four preseason games and registered five total tackles.
Aside from subpar combine numbers, Polite also graded poorly in interviews and admitted he never studied tape of himself, contributing to his decline in the draft.
