Report: Seahawks, Texans deep in talks over Clowney trade
The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly deep in discussions with the Houston Texans about a trade for Pro Bowl edge defender Jadeveon Clowney, sources told Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Clowney reportedly prefers a move to the Seahawks or Philadelphia Eagles. A report Friday claimed the 26-year-old adamantly opposed being dealt to the Miami Dolphins.
Clowney holds some say in where he goes because he could delay signing his franchise tender and threaten to leave the acquiring team in free agency after the season. Clowney cannot play for any team or be traded until he signs his tag.
The Seahawks could use pass-rushing assistance after they traded away top sack artist Frank Clark in the offseason. Seattle drafted L.J. Collier in the first round to help replace Clark, but the rookie may not be ready for the start of the regular season because of an ankle injury.
In 15 games last season, Clowney collected 47 tackles and nine sacks. Despite an extensive injury history, the former No. 1 overall pick has missed just six contests over the last four years.
