The San Francisco 49ers are expected to place Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve after the running back suffered a setback in his recovery from a torn ACL, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It's currently unclear whether McKinnon's 2019 season is over, and he may undergo a procedure to fix the issue, Rapoport added.
McKinnon signed a four-year, $30-million deal with the 49ers last offseason, but tore his ACL in September and missed the entire 2018 campaign.
This year, the 27-year-old was set to compete for a job in a crowded 49ers backfield that signed Tevin Coleman in free agency and also includes Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert.
