The New England Patriots have signed free-agent wide receiver Cameron Meredith, the team announced Friday.

Meredith worked out for the Patriots earlier this week after the New Orleans Saints cut him.

The 26-year-old doesn't lack talent, but he's suffered through plenty of knee issues. He underwent reconstructive surgery after a gruesome injury in the 2017 preseason while with the Chicago Bears, missing the entire campaign as a result.

Meredith also played just six games last season with New Orleans due to another knee injury suffered in November.

The veteran pass-catcher joins a crowded receiving corps in New England, but also an unproven group beyond Julian Edelman. Meredith will compete for snaps with N'Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Maurice Harris, and Dontrelle Inman in training camp.

New England has placed Meredith on the physically unable to perform list while he recovers from a knee issue, according to ESPN's Field Yates. Fellow receivers Edelman and Demaryius Thomas are also working back to full health.
