Report: Jaguars expected to cut Bortles after inking Foles
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to release quarterback Blake Bortles once their big-money signing of Nick Foles is official, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Bortles, the third overall pick of the 2014 draft, lost his starting job late in the 2018 campaign, all but cementing his future release. The 26-year-old never came close to fulfilling expectations in Jacksonville despite guiding the franchise to the AFC title game two seasons ago.
Jacksonville rewarded Bortles after his playoff run in 2017 with a three-year, $54-million contract. The Jags will eat a $16.5-million dead cap hit by releasing him.
Bortles threw for 2,718 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 13 games last season. He spent five years with the Jaguars.
The Foles signing can't be made official until Wednesday when the new league year begins.
