Quinnen Williams makes case to go No. 1, says he looks up to Aaron Donald

Quinnen Williams significantly improved his draft stock during his final season at Alabama, and now he's looking to cement his case to go first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The standout defensive tackle - who declared for the draft Jan. 11 despite having two years of eligibility left at Alabama - made his case to be taken with the No. 1 pick in an interview with NFL.com's Brooke Cersosimo.

"My IQ level is through the roof," Williams said. "I can sit down and breakdown film of a quarterback and (identify) tendencies and stuff like that. I work very hard on the field and off the field. I'm a team player, I'm a coachable player, and I really listen."

Although Williams pointed out that he doesn't model his game after one particular player, he mentioned Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald as someone to emulate.

"I look at Aaron Donald as a learning tool," Williams said. "I can learn from everything he does, but there's been people who did it before (him) like Warren Sapp, Gerald McCoy, Fletcher Cox. There's a lot of people who do it the same way, but he gets the sacks. I can learn different techniques from all of these guys, but he's a great player to sit and watch.

"He's definitely opening the door for guys like me to be drafted so high because (the position) is needed and you see how he works. It's the opportunity for me to show the world that I can do the same thing. People say there's only one Aaron Donald, but there could be only one Quinnen Williams, too. "

Williams emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 2018 college season, and with months until the draft, it's now on him to convince general managers that his excellent campaign at Alabama will translate to the NFL.
