The New York Jets are discussing their vacant defensive coordinator position with former Cleveland Browns interim head coach Gregg Williams, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The two sides are reportedly expected to strike a deal, putting Williams in charge of the defense for incoming head coach Adam Gase.

Williams boasts a great deal of experience as a defensive coordinator. He was in that role for the Browns from 2017-18 until his promotion to interim head coach on Oct. 29 following the firing of Hue Jackson.

The 60-year-old went 5-3 after taking over for Jackson, but it wasn't enough to keep the job on a permanent basis. He wasn't retained by the Browns when Freddie Kitchens was named their new full-time head coach.
