Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that running back James Conner will not play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Tomlin also told reporters that Conner suffered an ankle sprain and not a contusion as previously believed.

Conner is excelling as the team's lead back, rushing for 909 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games this season.

Tomlin said the Steelers' plan is to operate with a running back by committee, but noted that Stevan Ridley, Jaylen Samuels, and Trey Edmunds will all be afforded opportunities to take the lead during practice.
