The Kansas City Chiefs have released running back Kareem Hunt, the team announced Friday.

A video was posted earlier in the day that shows Hunt pushing and kicking a woman in a Cleveland hotel. The NFL placed Hunt on the commissioner's exempt list shortly after the video emerged, while the Chiefs reportedly dismissed Hunt from the team's practice facility.

Kansas City released the following statement:

"Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt. At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact. We are releasing Kareem immediately."

Hunt was accused of shoving 19-year-old Abigail Ottinger during an altercation at a Cleveland hotel in February. No charges were filed against Hunt, nor was he arrested and Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt said that he didn't expect a suspension from the NFL in August.

The running back released the following statement shortly after his release, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

"I want to apologize for my actions. I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this."

Rapoport added that both the NFL and the Chiefs reportedly hadn't seen the video prior to Friday.
