Mahomes laments key turnovers vs. Rams: 'I gave them 21 points'

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes set a Monday Night Football record by tossing six touchdowns in a thriller against the Los Angeles Rams, but his performance was marred by three crucial turnovers in Kansas City's 54-51 loss.

The young pivot threw a pick-6 in the third quarter, and a dominant Aaron Donald also forced two fumbles by Mahomes that led to another pair of Rams touchdowns.

Afterward, despite all the touchdowns and throwing for a career-best 478 yards, Mahomes laid the blame for the defeat squarely at his own feet.

"The turnovers, they just changed the game," he said, according to NFL.com's Austin Knoblauch. "I gave them 21 points, pretty much, through turnovers. It was kind of like the New England game. You can't give good teams points turning the ball over and that was the turning point of the game."

Mahomes also had two interceptions in the final minutes of the fourth quarter as the Chiefs attempted to erase the three-point deficit.

"It sucks right now. Plain and simple," he added. "You wanted to win that game going into the bye week, (against) a good team like that, a playoff team."

But while the Chiefs ultimately came up short, their young quarterback kept them in the game time and time again, including several downfield connections with Tyreek Hill, who ended the night with two touchdowns and 215 receiving yards.

With that in mind, head coach Andy Reid heaped praise on Mahomes.

"He's resilient, man. And he has confidence in himself and his teammates," Reid said. "Thus, he gives it to everybody around him. He makes everybody around him better.
