Hue Jackson would take job as assistant 'in a heartbeat'

The Cleveland Browns fired head coach Hue Jackson last week after he led the team to a 3-36-1 record since the start of the 2016 season.

The 53-year-old, who's owned many different positions on NFL sidelines since 2001 after starting out in the college ranks as a graduate assistant in 1987, said he's open to taking another job for the remainder of the 2018 season as an assistant.

"If there's somebody who I know and trust and respect, felt like they needed me to help or to do something for them along the lines of assisting in any way that I can to help them be as good as they can be on game day, I would do that in a heartbeat," Jackson said on The Adam Schefter Podcast.

Jackson owns the second-worst winning percentage in NFL history among head coaches with at least 40 games, split between his time in Cleveland and with the Oakland Raiders in 2011.

He's still confident in his abilities as an offensive coordinator, a role he last held with the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and he could seek out a similar position next year.

"Oh absolutely, I would," Jackson said. "And I'm not going to run from the opportunity to sit in the head chair again either. I know I can do it. There's no question in my mind that I can. I know my record doesn't say that and rightfully so. I get it. But I know that I can go coordinate offenses in the National Football League tomorrow if given an opportunity."
