Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving suffered a high-ankle sprain during practice on Thursday, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Irving required a cart to leave the field, but X-Rays came back negative, added Rapoport. The 25-year-old will undergo further testing.

The fourth-year pro was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the second ban of his career. He then missed Dallas' fifth game due to personal issues before playing in the team's last two contests, racking up three tackles and one sack.

Irving was expected to push his way back into the starting lineup after the Cowboys' bye, but it appears Antwaun Woods and Tyrone Crawford will remain atop the depth chart in his absence.
