Though it's unlikely David Johnson will receive an extension before the season kicks off Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals remain intent on keeping their superstar.

"I'm convinced David is the guy we want to keep as a core member of this team," general manager Steve Keim said Friday morning on 98.7's "Doug and Wolf" show, according to AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban.

Keim said the team is hopeful about coming to terms with Johnson and that both sides remain in constant dialogue.

Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie deal and could drive up the price by rebounding nicely from his injury-shortened 2017. Keim appears to have no concerns about that.

"There is no doubt in my mind David is poised to have a great year," Keim said.
