Beckham ready to live up to huge new contract: 'I want to be legendary'

The New York Giants finally backed up the Brinks truck for Odell Beckham Jr. on Monday, making him the league's highest-paid receiver on a five-year extension.

With the lengthy contract standoff in the rear-view mirror, the superstar is now focused on etching his name into the NFL's history books.

"I want to be legendary," Beckham said Tuesday, according to SNY's Danny Abriano. "My goal has always been to be in the Hall of Fame, to win trophies, to leave a legacy way beyond any money that you make."

Beckham is already on his way to doing just that. Beyond his iconic one-handed catches, the receiver has put up record production over his first four seasons in the league.

He was the fastest player in NFL history to 100, 150, 200, and 250 catches, and only Lance Alworth hit 4,000 receiving yards in as many games (48).

Despite his eye-popping production, re-signing with New York was never a certainty.

Beckham was the subject of trade speculation earlier in the offseason, with the Giants reportedly eager to see how well he reacted to head coach Pat Shurmur's new regime.

But co-owner John Mara insisted Tuesday that Beckham was never going anywhere.

"I would say there was a very very small chance that was not even worth losing sleep over," Mara said. "We wanted him on the team. I think he knew that. We made that pretty clear to him."
