The New England Patriots will adjust quarterback Tom Brady's contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Brady will receive up to $5 million in performance-based incentives on top of his current deal, according to Schefter.

The five-time Super Bowl champion is scheduled to make $15 million in 2018. He's only the 16th-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL in terms of average annual value, per Over the Cap, but the incentives will bring him closer to his peers in the market.

New England is expected to officially add the performance-based incentives in the next 24 hours, according to Schefter.

The adjustment to Brady's deal is similar to what the Patriots did last offseason with star tight end Rob Gronkowski. The reworked contract made Gronkowski the league's highest-paid tight end.
