Winslow Jr. case to move to trial on rape, kidnapping charges
A judge has ruled there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial against former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.
Judge Harry M. Elias ruled at a preliminary hearing in San Diego on Thursday that Winslow will face two felony counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit rape, and one count of forcible sodomy, Josh Peter of USA Today reports. Winslow also had two criminal counts of attempted burglary reduced to misdemeanors - the charges were not thrown out, as was originally reported. The felony charges against Winslow could result in life sentences if he's convicted.
A 58-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman have said Winslow raped them.
Winslow's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said the case "is going to be hotly contested."
Winslow's bail has been set at $2 million.
