Denver Broncos general manager and executive vice president John Elway fell short in his attempt to qualify for the 2018 U.S. Senior Open Championship next month.
Elway failed to land one of two qualifying spots Monday, according to Arnie Stapleton of The Associated Press. The 39th annual tournament takes place this year at The Broadmoor's east course in Colorado Springs, Colo.
"I haven’t been playing very well. I haven’t been playing much, either," Elway said. “But it was fun to be out here and compete. It’s a lot of work in that rough."
The 1.4-handicap golfer shot 10 over par, finishing in a tie for 18th.
Elway will still serve as the event's honorary chairman.
