Flacco embraces Jackson's arrival, acknowledges pick 'means something'
Joe Flacco can see the writing on the wall.
The Baltimore Ravens drafted his likely successor at quarterback when they traded up to select Lamar Jackson with the final pick of the first round in this year's draft.
The two shared snaps at team OTAs Thursday, and Flacco tried his best to make the situation as amicable as possible.
"We welcomed Lamar here with open arms," Flacco said to reporters, including Todd Karpovich of the Associated Press.
Though head coach John Harbaugh insists Flacco will remain the starting quarterback, the veteran knows the Jackson pick is significant.
"Obviously, when you pick a quarterback, when you pick anybody in the first round, it means something. I don't know what that means. I don't know exactly what it is. That's not my job to worry about what it is," Flacco said.
"My job is to keep my approach exactly what it's been the last 10 years and help my team win football games."
The Ravens narrowly missed out on the postseason in 2017 and haven't made the playoffs since 2014.
